FAQ
So what's this gonna cost me?
That’s a great, and very common, question. The short answer is, it depends. It’s a bit like calling a contractor and asking him how much it would cost to build you a house. There are some questions that have to be answered before we can give you a ballpark.
How long will it take to complete?
This again depends on your particular project, however, most website projects will wrap up in 2-4 months from the time we start a dialog.
How much does a website cost?
The cost to build a website can vary quite dramatically, depending on the web designer that you choose. The cost is directly related to how many labor hours the web design company spends on building your website.
Where does the money go?
Graphical Design
Graphical design involves designing the look of the entire website including the framework, the home page, and the interior pages. This usually takes quite a bit of time and effort.
Programming
Programming is required to add certain features to a website. This could be a search feature, a rotating slider, online forms, or anything else that requires technical knowledge.
Adding Content
Probably the biggest task of any website is adding all the content. Text and graphics need to be added to every page, and then formatted for a nice layout.
Project Management
Every time you interact with the web designer is time spent on project management. This also includes internal meetings of the web design staff.
Logistics
The web designer also has to setup web hosting, install software, and perform a variety of logistical tasks associated with building and hosting a website.
Copywriting
If you don’t have the time or resources, you can hire a web designer to write the text for your website. This can be a substantial undertaking, depending on how much text you need.
Budgeting Questionnaire
When pricing a project, the following questions can help to hone in on the scope of a project and its appropriate budget range.
- What are the visual design requirements for the project? Who will be providing the design? Are there existing corporate design standards and logo?
- Roughly how large is the site in terms of page count and how complex are the pages?
- Will the site use any NewfangledCMS applications?
- Does the site require complex component functionality, such as password protection (extranets and intranets) or e-commerce?
- Does the site have any unusual needs that extend beyond the basic display of content and existing component functionality?
- Will the site need to integrate with any other existing systems?
